There are no words that can convey the horrors that led up to George Floyd’s killing on May 25, 2020--or the many, many other Black and brown people who have died in police custody.
Why do we not see how barbaric the deaths of so many Black people are--and yet decry the barbarism of other cultures that cut off fingers and hands for theft? Both actions are barbaric.
Why do we not see how barbaric the deaths of so many Black people are--and yet point to the heinous deaths of women in other cultures who are accused of sexual impropriety--even victims of rape? Both actions are barbaric.
We are barbaric just as much as those “other” cultures.
Like Sandra Bland in her Sandy Speaks YouTube videos, George Floyd, too, appealed for people to end violence. Both had firm faith.
They deserve for their lives to make huge, lasting changes in the way our country thinks and acts.
Eternal rest, be with George, Ahmaud, Breonna, Trayvon, Sandra, and all the many, many lives that have been lost as if they did not matter. #BlackLivesMatter
In the spirit of using words as bridges,
